In England, most of the "Geraniums" that we plant in the summer time which are not hardy in our English winters, are actually Pelargoniums.

Common names can cause mix ups. ‘Geranium’ is the name most people use when talking about Pelargonium. But Geranium is actually a different plant genus so to help avoid confusion some refer to Geranium as ‘hardy geraniums’, and Pelargonium as ‘tender geraniums’. 

We know the Geranium as the beautiful leaved vibrant colour plant which we plant in our gardens, plant up in pots in the summer time.
