Very excited to share the knit-a-long for Yorkshire Yarn Fest for the beautiful sweater, Paul Klee by Midori Hirose.
A sweater inspired by Paul Klee’s paintings. You will play with colors and develop their combinations with square motifs. You can mix and match many colors, or use just a few, for example 4 to 6 colors. For the sample sweater’s combo, I picked up the colors you can find in the painter’s palette.
The sweater is light thanks to a gauge much looser than that of traditional Fair Isle sweaters. If you are used to stranded knitting, this loose gauge may surprise you. If you have trouble achieving the pattern gauge, you can work with a thicker yarn or add a lace weight yarn. Using two yarns with different colors together will add depth to the shades and produce a lovely combination. I hope you enjoy your color work!

Needles
You need 3 different size of circular needles.

small size needle for ribbing: 2.75 mm / US 2 /JP 2

middle size needle for stockinette stitch: 3 mm / US 2.5 /JP 3

large size needle for color work: 3.75 mm / US 5 /JP 5(or 6)
Gauge
- 22 sts x 34 rows = 10 cm /4“, in stockinette stitch with middle size needle after wet blocking.
- 22 sts x 27 rows = 10 cm /4“, in colorwork pattern in round with large size needle after wet blocking.
Notions
(8, 8, 8, 8)(8, 8, 8, 8)(8, 10, 10, 10)(12, 12, 12, 12) stitch markers (I recommend to use a different color for EOR), waste yarn, tapestry needle, tape measure (is very useful if you will try on the sweater during knitting)、locking stitch markers (safety pin markers).
